RotoWire's Preseason Outlooks
There was no outlook written for Kyle Smith.
Smith, a fourth-round draft pick of the Royals in 2011, was acquired by the Astros ahead of the non-waiver trade deadline last year. The 21-year-old right-hander maintained solid peripherals (8.2 K/9, 2.7 BB/9, 0.9 HR/9) at the High-A level, with a 117:38 K:BB ratio over 127.2 innings. Smith could take a step forward in his development at Double-A this season, where he is likely to begin the year. The diminutive hurler (six-feet, 170-pounds) projects as an eventual mid-rotation starter in the majors, while the Astros' lack of proven options currently on the big league roster could provide him with a faster track through the minors.
