RotoWire's Preseason Outlooks
There was no outlook written for Joe Gatto.
The 53rd overall selection in the 2014 draft, Gatto is a 6-foot-4, 215-pound three-sport athlete out of St. Augustine Prep (New Jersey), who can reach 95 miles per hour with his fastball. The 19-year-old can have trouble locating his secondary pitches at times (a curveball and a changeup), and while Angels scouting director Ric Wilson called Gatto "unpolished," he also noted that he likes the right-hander's ability to "throw the ball down hill." Gatto finished his final season of high school ball in dominating fashion, notching a 0.94 ERA with 65 strikeouts in 52.1 innings as a senior, but has not yet found success in professional baseball, as he tallied just a 5.33 ERA in time split between the Orem Owlz and Arizona Angels in 2014. He'll likely progress to a full-season affiliate at some point in 2015.
