Jordan Pries

Pries came over from the Mariners to the Cubs in July as part of the deal in which the Cubs acquired Mike Montgomery. After a solid start to the season in Triple-A Tacoma with Seattle where he posted a 3.65 ERA in 24.2 innings, Pries struggled in the second half of 2016 after being traded to the Cubs. Pitching for Triple-A Iowa, the 26-year-old accumulated a disappointing 5.21 ERA over 46.2 innings. One reason for Pries' struggles after coming over to Chicago may have been his elevated walk rate. His BB/9 rose from 2.59 with Seattle in 2016 to an alarming 4.44 for Triple-A Iowa with Chicago. Pries currently looks to be far from a finished product and will likely need at least another season before he will be ready to compete for a major league bullpen spot. If anything, his second season with the Cubs will need to showcase a significant improvement from his first.
