Castillo got the start in favor of Paul Bako on Tuesday after Bako was hit with an elbow to the chin during a play at the plate during Monday's game and went 0-for-2 with a strikeout, the Baltimore Sun reports. "Supposedly when you take a blow like that, if you take another one in the next 48 hours, it can cause some other problems," manager Sam Perlozzo said. "Bako was probably going to catch two of three anyway, and Castillo has caught [Tuesday's starter Daniel Cabrera] in winter ball, so I thought it was the time to err on the side of caution and let Bako come back [Wednesday]."

RotoWire's Preseason Outlooks

2014

There was no outlook written for Alberto Castillo.

2006

Signed late in the year by the A's following another typical (read: yawn) Castillo year in the Royals chain. He'll be a minor league catcher somewhere.

2005

If it is possible to have a career year with only 89 at-bats, Castillo did it in 2004. Called up in June when Benito Santiago and Kelly Stinnett both went down, Castillo responded with hits in five of his first six games. He added a seven-game hitting streak in late July and through August. Although the Royals look to be heading another direction with John Buck as the starter, they signed Castillo to a minor-league deal for 2005.

2004

The acquisition of A.J. Pierzynski keeps Castillo buried in the third catcher slot, destined to spend most of his time at Triple-A. He has as much upside as you'd expect from a 34-year-old with 805 career at-bats and a .574 OPS.

2003

Castillo is an all-field, no-hit catcher who is a long shot to win a backup catching job at this point. With the Giants in 2003, he'll likely provide org depth only, and probably will see no playing time with the big club.
