2013
There was no outlook written for John Mabry.
2007
A free agent at press time, Mabry will try to parlay his defensive versatility and left-handed bat into a reserve role, although he's 35 and coming off a poor season at the plate.
2006
Mabry filled in at first base, third base and the corner outfield spots for the injury-riddled Cardinals last year. He has some pop as a left-handed bat off the bench, and will fill a similarly versatile role with the Cubs in 2006.
2005
Mabry did everything that was asked of him. He struggled in the spring due to a back ailment but slugged .654 in Triple-A before a May promotion to the big leagues. His third tour with the Cardinals a resounding success. He continued to hit for power and filled in at first, third and in the outfield. Mabry became a free agent after the 2004 season and those kinds of skills earn a guy more than a minor-league contract.
2004
A shoulder injury limited Mabry in 2003 and he didn't get many at bats. He won't get enough opportunities to be a major fantasy contributor.
2003
Talk about making a good first impression on your teammates. He swatted 11 HRs in 193 at-bats for the A's. We'd say it was a revival, but he's never done that before. Chalk it up to luck. He's a free agent following the 2002 season.
