2005
Prior to the 2004 season, McCarty was offered a front office job with the Dodgers. He declined, wanting to play another season in Boston. McCarty stuck with the Sox through the entire season, but in a very limited role. At this point, he's a good team player, but of little fantasy value.
2004
McCarty signed a minor league deal with the Red Sox in the fall and faces an uphill battle to make the team out of spring training. He was effective for Boston in a limited role off the bench, mashing lefties when called upon.
