2013
There was no outlook written for Kevin Appier.
2005
His elbow never was healthy enough to help the Royals in 2004 and he shut himself down to retirement in July, saving the Royals $150,000. His fastball was in the mid-80s at best, leaving him very hittable. He is going to try to come back this spring after surgery for a torn elbow tendon, but at this point his upside looks very limited.
2004
He'll be 36 this season and coming off of elbow surgery. He won't be back until May and there is no telling how effective he will be.
2003
Appier was a durable pitcher for the Angels last season, posting a 3.92 ERA and 14 wins in 32 starts. Both totals placed him in the top 20 in the AL. He has started at least 30 games in 10 of his last 12 seasons. Posts enough strikeouts to pass in the K category. The lone knock on Appier is his penchant to give up home runs (at least 22 in each of the last three seasons). Still, he has nice value in AL-only leagues, with late round value in mixed leagues.
