If you take out his Coors Field outings and a nightmarish start in Miami (10 R in 2.7 IP), Sparks' ERA for 2004 falls to 4.80. That's not Cy Young material, but an AL GM who needs an innings-eater could find him attractive. In the right ballpark as a fifth starter, he might have some roto value.
2004
Rescued by the A's from the Tigers late in the season, Sparks will try to land a bullpen or 5th-starter role with Arizona.
2003
After a solid 2000 season and an outstanding 2001 campaign, Sparks was awful most of last year, save for a three-week stretch in late July and early August. Given the fickleness of the knuckleball and the new left-field dimensions at Comerica Park, we'll need to see a bunch of good results from Sparks before we're willing to risk our 2003 fortunes on him.
