2004
Williams had a combined 1-7 record with a 6.14 ERA and 28 saves in 2003. He'll compete for a set-up role in the Rays' bullpen in the spring.
2003
Williams stepped it up a notch in 2002 when he figured out a way to keep left-handed batters in the park. He's so heavily reliant on his slider that there's a risk he'll lose that skill again and revert from "good closer" to "closer for a bad team." The saves will still be there in 2003, even as the ERA and ratio regress back to 2000-01 levels.
