2005
Brown signed a minor-league deal to return to the Royals, showing just how depleted the farm system is of outfielders. In fairness, the former Pittsburgh and Boston farmhand was given 10 days to show his goods at the major-league level before getting sent back to Triple-A Omaha. Despite inviting him to spring camp, this 31-year-old outfielder is way down on the Royals’ options list.
2004
If Damian Jackson remains with the team, there will not be a need to keep Brown in Boston. Everyone's intrigued by the speed, but he's disappointed everywhere above Triple-A.
2003
Brown showed signs in 2002 that he can still run, take a walk and play the position. He'll need to hit .270 to help, but if he does, he'll score 80 runs and steal 25-30 bases. There's a Dave Roberts story here given the chance for regular playing time.
