RotoWire's Preseason Outlooks

2014

There was no outlook written for John Halama.

2005

Halama remains in the big leagues because he's a lefty but doesn't produce enough statistically to be interesting. He'll work out of the bullpen for Boston, and could get a few starts if the Red Sox find themselves in need of a spot starter.

2004

After his rookie season, Halama's year-by-year ERAs have been misleading. According to the Bill James Handbook, Halama's year-by-year component ERAs, starting in 2000, have been 5.42, 5.21, 4.29, and 4.61. Coming into a Tampa Bay home park that's not as pitcher friendly as Seattle and Oakland, we sense disaster looming. Halama will compete for a rotation job in the spring. If he gets it, it'll only help you if let someone outbid you for Halama in your AL draft.

2003

In 10 starts with Seattle last season, he had a 4-1 record, but a 4.83 ERA. He's with the A's now and enters spring training as the frontrunner for the fifth starters spot.
