2013
There was no outlook written for Brian Shouse.
2010
Already having a solid situational lefty in Randy Choate, the Rays declined their option on Shouse making him a free agent. At 41, he likely sign on somewhere in the same capacity or retire.
2009
Shouse's performance fell off as the season went on in 2008 and he didn't see much time in September. When used exclusively against left-handed hitters, Shouse can still be effective, but he's not a great bullpen option beyond situational work. The Brewers may bring him back for one more season, but Shouse will look around the league for a muti-year deal as a free agent first.
2008
Shouse was a nice surprise for most of 2007. Thought to be just a lefty specialist, he came through in more situations until he returned to normal at the end of the season. The Brewers will bring him back as a lefty specialist in 2008.
2007
Shouse was picked up in the middle of the 2006 season and pitched well enough that the Brewers will bring him back as a middle reliever/lefty specialist in 2007.
2006
Shouse is still effective against lefties, with a .209 BAA, but righties beat him around the yard at a .337 clip. Used strictly as a lefty killer, he can still be effective. Hide the women and children if a righty digs in.
2005
Shouse continues to get lefties out, holding them to a .188 BAA in 2004, which will keep him employed as long as he's interested. There's no roto value in it, though it pays his bills.
2004
Shouse got beat around the yard by righties, but what else would you expect from a guy who started the year with 36 appearances in the big leagues over a 10-year span? Being left-handed, he'll have a job as long as he wants it, like a Supreme Court Justice, minus the robe and gavel.
