RotoWire's Preseason Outlooks
There was no outlook written for Paul Abbott.
Abbott bounced from Tampa Bay to Philadelphia in 2004 and was ineffective along the way. It's hard to believe that another team will give him a chance, and even if they do, yours shouldn't be one of them.
Based on a passable late-season run with the Royals last year (3.79 ERA, 1.30 WHIP in his last seven starts), Tampa Bay signed Abbott to a one-year deal to compete for a fifth-starter, innings-eater, spare-the-good-young-pitchers role. However, since Abbott only averaged six innings a start in his best years in 2000-01, we wonder if he'll be effective in that role. In AL leagues, spend more than a dollar at your peril.
