Past Fantasy Outlooks

Roberts made the Mets out of spring training but was clearly bothered by the same sore shoulder that cost him part of 2002 and most of 2003. After battling the Mets on whether to have a diagnostic procedure done on his pitching arm, he finally underwent arthroscopic surgery in May to repair a torn labrum in his right shoulder, which sidelined him for the rest of the season. He has cleared waivers and might be brought back to the Mets on a minor league deal but has little value at this point.
Roberts saw his 2002 season end early with biceps and elbow tendonitis and those injuries cost him the first four months of the 2003 campaign. He pitched well the last two months of the season and solidified his spot on the team, even earning his first career save. Roberts will again pitch out of the bullpen and if healthy, should have a productive year but not one that would warrant a spot on a fantasy team.
Roberts was pitching pretty well before being sidelined by elbow and shoulder tendinitis. He doesn't have the skill set to be a successful closer, but he could prove useful in the endgame. Any attempt to pick him up will be greeted with at least one bong-related joke.
