2009
Carlyle quietly had a productive season for the Braves in a limited role with a 59:26 K:BB ratio in 62.7 innings. His strikeout rate improved from the previous season, so he may be able to keep a middle-relief role in 2009.
2008
Carlyle was a feel-good story in 2007, pitching in the majors for the first time since 2005. But he faded after the All-Star break with a 5.75 ERA and a 40:19 K:BB ratio in 61 innings. He'll contend for the fifth starter job this spring, but more likely he'll add depth at Triple-A. Still, his strong 56:9 K:BB ratio in 48.2 innings at Triple-A show he could surprise.
