Nickle had a couple of bad outings for the Dodgers' Triple-A affiliate in Las Vegas last week and subsequently retired, the Dodgers' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Nickle's retirement caught the Dodgers offguard, given that they'd already dealt Tanyon Sturtze and Rick White away so that they could get another shot in the majors with other teams.

Claimed off waivers by the Padres in late August, Nickle did little to impress. After closing in the minors, Nickle made a habit of opening the door for MLB hitters in 2002. Unless he shows some of that minor league prowess that made him a pseudo-closer candidate in Philly prior to ’01, avoid him.
