Past Fantasy Outlooks
2004
2003
After showing positive signs in 2002, Strange took a step back in 2003. He started off well in Norfolk, even earning a call-up to the Mets in May, but once he was optioned back to the minors the wheels came off. Strange possesses a 91-94 MPH sinker and a plus changeup but still needs work on his command. He is young enough to have another shot, but the clock is ticking and his window of opportunity may close soon.
Strange went 10-10 with a 3.82 ERA at Triple-A Norfolk and pitched well after a call-up last year. He'll likely spend time in the bullpen as the long reliever until one of the veteran starters on the team breaks down. He has solid stuff but hasn't yet mastered dominating Triple-A hitters, but as one of the youngest pitchers in Triple-A in 2002, that's easily excused.
