RotoWire's Preseason Outlooks

2014

There was no outlook written for Henry Mateo.

2005

Mateo will never be more than an utility infielder/pinch-runner, but in 2004 he could barely handle that job description. He can be useful, but he's eminently disposable.

2004

Mateo was born a quarter century too late, alas -- in another era, he could have been the second coming of Rodney Scott. In today's game though, he's just a guy on a bench.

2003

Mateo has utility infielder written all over him, but a Jose Vidro trade could give him a shot at a starting role, and a batting average higher than .200. A .300 OBP is probably asking too much.
