Davis has been included in the trade to Colorado, along with pitcher Zach Day and either a minor league player to be named later or cash in exchange for outfielder Preston Wilson, the Associated Press reports.
ANALYSIS
Davis struggled when the Nationals had a crowded outfield earlier in the season and ended up getting sent down to Triple-A. While any potential value is still filled with "potential" and little in the way of concrete evidence, a trade to Colorado could be just what the doctor ordered. He's still just 26, and if he can learn how to hit major league pitching, a 6-foot-5, 250-pounder can do some damage in Coors Field.

The 6-foot-5, 250-pound outfielder, who had displayed flashes of power in the minors, muddled through an injury-plagued season in 2004, hitting .143 with no homers and three RBI in 35 at-bats with the Pirates. Clearly in need of a change of scenery, he was dealt to the Nationals, but he enters a crowded outfield situation and would have to be lights out this spring to enter the season as more than a bench player, albeit one with some untapped potential.
At 6-5, 240, he's built like a Steeler. Written off by many, he finally displayed flashes of the power potential that made him the Pirates' first-round (8th pick overall) choice in the 1997 draft. Davis turned in a good season at Triple-A Nashville, hitting.284 with 26 homers (third in the PCL) and 67 RBI with 23 steals, an impressive theft total, considering his size. Davis will need to stay on the roster next season as he is out of minor-league options. He has an outside chance of winning the team's right field job, a chance that improved with the news of Jason Bay's shoulder injury, and if he does he could put up some interesting numbers.
Davis has a tremendous future as a baseball uniform model. He looks great in one. He starts losing points when you ask him to move around, though. He hit .287 at Double-A with some power, his best performance as a pro. He’s expressed an interest in returning to pitching, so if he doesn’t have success at Triple-A this year, look for a conversion.
