ANALYSIS
Shinjo, who played with the Mets and Giants in the 2001-2003 seasons and appeared in the 2002 World Series, thus becomes the first Japanese player ever to appear to make his first career Japan Series appearance after first appearing in the World Series. Shinjo hit .258 with 16 homers and 62 RBI in 126 games for the Fighters this season. Shinjo remains hugely popular in Japan; the fans voted him into the starting lineup for next month's MLB-Japan All-Star series, but Shinjo declined the invite, stating it should go to a younger player.
