2008
Chulk finished up his first full season in San Francisco with solid numbers, posting a 3.57 ERA, 1.264 WHIP and a 41:14 K:BB ratio over 53 innings. However, he missed the last five weeks of the season with Buerger’s Disease, a circulatory ailment largely caused by tobacco use. He should be able to return this season at full strength and figures to remain an asset in San Francisco's pen while working in middle relief.
2007
Chulk was acquired from the Blue Jays in a deal involving Jeremy Accardo and pitched just as poorly in the NL (5.24 ERA) as he did in the AL (5.25 ERA). Still, hitters batted just .210 against him in the Senior Circuit, and he did strikeout 25 batters in just 22.1 innings. He's likely to settle in as an adequate middle reliever.
2006
Chulk spent a pretty pedestrian year in short relief in 2005. There's neither the solid K/IP nor K/BB ratio that would ever make him more than a decent middle reliever.
2005
A former starter, Chulk pitched the bulk of 2004 relieving in the majors and down the stretch pitched some important late innings. Still, his pedestrian H/IP and K/BB ratios suggest he won't be anything more than a typical short reliever.
2004
Chulk missed a few weeks with minor elbow ailments, and ended up the season in Toronto's bullpen. In between, he was only decent at Triple-A, posting a 90:46 K:BB ratio in 120 innings. Those aren't numbers that are going to translate to immediate success in the majors. He'll start the season in the minors again unless a few injuries hit the Toronto starters this spring.
2003
A converted reliever, Chulk pitched very well this past year as a starter at Double-A. He went 13-5 with a 2.96 ERA, allowing less than a hit an inning. It will be interesting to see if his stuff is good enough to get Triple-A hitters out effectively as well. A solid half season at Syracuse could land him a spot in the Toronto rotation by mid-season if injuries hit.
