July 12, 2010
The Astros have released Meyer, Baseball America reports. He was hitting .241/.339/.352.
ANALYSIS
The Angels picked up Meyer and installed him as the starter at second base for their Triple-A affiliate. Myer hit the ground running, and sports a .324 average in the nine games since the transaction. The 28-year-old infielder obviously likes the thin air of Salt Lake. Just an FYI for those in leagues that have minor league elements.

Past Fantasy Outlooks

2003
It's officially a failed pick. Taken early in the first round of 2002, Meyer can't even crack a major-league roster as a utility player. Another wasted season (.228/.278/.305 at Triple-A Oklahoma City) in 2006, and nothing points to him ever having a meaningful career.
Considered by many a first-round reach back in the June 2002 draft, Meyer is now being converted to center field in hopes that he or Ramon Nivar can plug the gap for the next several seasons. He hasn’t shown much pop at the plate in his pro career as yet, and he'll need to show he can handle Double-A pitching for a few months before whispers of a promotion to Texas begin in earnest. The Rangers have been pleased with his defense, but Meyer's defense doesn't begin to justify taking him 10th overall in the draft. This season is an important year for him professionally.
Meyer was Texas' first-round pick in the June draft, which many consider to be a pretty good reach. Defense is his calling card, and he's already started to get some time in at second base after being drafted as a shortstop. He needs to improve his numbers at low-A Savannah before we can even begin taking him seriously as a prospect worthy of first-round status.
