2006

Kroeger took a big step backward in 2005, just as higher-pedigreed prospects Conor Jackson and Carlos Quentin moved forward. He's an extreme long shot to make the major league roster as a fourth outfielder. To quote noted baseball analyst Austin Powers, his train has sailed.

2005

Kroeger's bat has some pop, but he still needs to work on plate discipline: he drew just 32 unintentional walks in 555 plate appearances at all levels combined last year. He'll likely get a chance to claim a roster spot in spring training (perhaps platooning in right field with Scott Hairston) and needs to make the most of his chance this year before prospects such as Conor Jackson and Carlos Quentin start pounding on the door. Kroeger struck out 21 times in 55 trips to the plate in his cup of coffee in the bigs last September. If he's overmatched early again, the D-Backs may not be patient with him.

2004

Kroeger had a great year at Single-A in 2003, and the D-Backs hope he can force his way into the big-league outfield by the spring of 2006. He'll start this year at Double-A El Paso.
