Edwards is not likely to go away as long as Jim Tracy serves as Pirates manager. A frequent flyer between Triple-A Indianapolis and Pittsburgh, Edwards lashed out three singles in 16 at-bats for the Bucs. Tracy even showed a sense of humor with Edwards, starting the right-handed hitting utility man against the Cardinals' ace, Chris Carpenter.
Edwards takes his utility player act to Pittsburgh, joining the cadre of ex-Dodgers following manager Jim Tracy there. He's not on the 40-man roster, so he'll need either an injury or a hot spring to make the big league squad.
Edwards does the things a good Triple-A outfielder should do: draws walks and hits the ball in the gaps. The Dodgers have used their bench effectively in the past, and Edwards could emerge as a decent fifth outfielder for an NL team. He'll need to impress in the spring first.
Edwards has bounced around the Indians' and Reds' chains before the A's called him up in September. There's not going to be anything but a reserve role available in Oakland though, so another September shot and a few champagne showers is what he can hope for.
