2013
There was no outlook written for Warner Madrigal.
2010
Madrigal spent the year traveling between Triple-A Oklahoma City and the majors, posting a nice season in the minors (49 innings, 42 hits, 48:11 K:BB and 17 saves) but struggling in the majors (12.2 innings, 18 hits, 14 runs, 5:12 K:BB). He's had control issues for most of his recent stops, including 2008 with Texas, and isn't in the conversation to take over late-inning duties from Neftali Feliz if Feliz re-enters the rotation.
2009
Madrigal emerged as a legit bullpen arm in 2008, striking out 43 batters in 36 minor league innings before being called up in late June and serving as Texas' primary set-up man in September. His control waned in the majors, walking 14 batters in 36 innings and his work in the Dominican Winter League (.344 BAA, 13.50 ERA and 10:8 K:BB ratio in 7.1 innings) wasn't encouraging. He doesn't keep the ball on the ground enough or throw enough strikes to provide the value some set-up men do in deeper leagues, so look elsewhere for a staff filler come March.
2008
Madrigal was added to Texas' 40-man roster this winter after signing him away from Anaheim as a six-year minor league free agent. Madrigal hummed along in his first full season as a reliever after being converted from a position player, allowing just 40 hits and 23 walks in 61 innings while fanning 75 at Single-A Cedar Rapids. He's continued to pitch well in the Dominican Winter League, and his performance thus far could have the Angels signing the blues that they let him get away.Madrigal had an impressive season with Low-A Cedar Rapids in the Angels’ system, going 5-4 with a 2.07 ERA and 75 strikeouts in 61 innings. Numbers like these are consistent with those of other top prospects, which Madrigal was with the Angels; but due to a contract error, Madrigal is now a top prospect with the Rangers. He signed with Texas in the offseason and though he has a ways to go before he hits the major leagues, his signing was an absolute steal for Texas.
