Lowery got his first taste of major league action in 2008 after posting a 2.12 ERA in 59.1 innings at Triple-A Omaha. However, a pedestrian 1.31 WHIP and a 43:30 K:BB ratio accompanied that ERA, so it was not a huge surprise when he struggled with Kansas City. He allowed two home runs in his 4.1 innings pitched, but struck out six. He should be in the running for a bullpen spot in spring training.
Lowery is plodding up the ladder with competent performances. Outside of a horrendous four-start performance in Wichita (24.84 ERA in 8 1/3 innings), he held to his career line in 2005. His numbers aren't exciting, but he could yet become a serviceable major league starter. A full year in Double-A Wichita in 2006 and a year of Triple-A in 2007 will likely ensue.
