2008
Wells took a significant step backward in 2007, posting a 3-7 record, 5.24 ERA and 1.673 WHIP in 92.2 Triple-A innings. He has struggled for two consecutive years at Triple-A and continues to have problems with his control. Over those two seasons, his Triple-A K:BB ratio is an uninspiring 142:94. Wells should spend another year at Triple-A in 2008 and at age 26, his window of opportunity is shrinking.
2007
Wells struggled at Triple-A in 2006 and met a similar fate in the Arizona Fall League (0-2, 5.28 ERA, 10 BB in 15.1 IP). He has struggled with his control for years and will have to reduce his walk totals before being promoted to the majors. At 25, he still has an open window of opportunity, but he'll need to show something in 2007. He’ll likely begin the year in Triple-A.
2006
Wells may finally be putting it all together after being seen as somewhat hard to coach during his first few professional seasons. He had struggled with control issues, but now that seems to be behind him. Though he's still years away from showing up in a Padres uniform, he's not a bad name for watch lists.
