The Nationals signed Denney to a minor league contract and invited him to spring training, the Nationals' team site reports.
ANALYSIS
Denney was limited to just nine starts with Cleveland's Triple-A Buffalo club in 2005 because of a skull fracture and concussion he suffered after taking a line drive off his head in a June 26 start vs. Durham. He made one rehab outing prior to the end of the season, tossing an inning for short-season Single-A Mahoning Valley on September 3 at Auburn. He'll compete for a bullpen job this spring.

2005 Fantasy Outlook
A middling relief prospect, Denney received his first shot with the Indians in September and was hit hard. He has a marginal shot at a major league career, as he has no real out pitch, but he has stayed healthy and will have more chances. Denney was also the subject of a rookie hazing prank that bizarrely saved him from injury: he was shot in the right leg through the side of the team bus while dressed as a USC cheerleader with ankle-high boots. The boot slowed the bullet and made it just a flesh wound, as Monty Python would say. You can look it up.
