Jacobsen signed a minor league contract with the White Sox.
ANALYSIS
Jacobsen missed almost all of 2005 with a knee injury, so he'll need to prove he's healthy this spring. Even if he's back to full strength, the White Sox are not a good organization for him to win playing time with the team set at DH and 1B.

Past Fantasy Outlooks
2006
2005
After an offseason with climbing expectations, Jacobsen missed almost all of 2005 with a knee injury and never made it to Seattle. He was taken off the 40-man roster and outrighted to Triple-A Tacoma, meaning he is not likely in the Mariners' plans for 2006. He likely will sign a minor league contract somewhere and still has major league potential if he stays healthy.
A career minor leaguer, Jacobsen brought his cartoonish persona—goofy name, red hair, goatee and a 6-4, 270 lbs. frame—to Safeco Field last year after a mid-season call-up and gave Mariners fans something to be enthused about for the first time all season. The 2004 Triple-A Home Run Derby champion hit six homers in his first 52 major league at-bats. His RBI project to 100 in a full season. The knock on him was he couldn't hit breaking balls, but he sufficiently defeated that notion before a season-ending September knee injury. He still needs a solid spring to make the club and then he'll only fill a bench spot as Raul Ibanez is the likely DH and Richie Sexson is at first.
