2009
Mastny's had trouble translating his minor league numbers into a steady string of major league meal money, shuffling back and forth between Triple-A and Cleveland. Last season was no exception and he'll try his luck in Japan in 2009. Some times the organizational soldiers never get beyond the beaches of Normandy.
2008
Mastny finished with a 7-2 record despite a 4.68 ERA and 1.647 WHIP. He doesn't have any major platoon splits to worry about, but he doesn't exactly carve up either side either. With a stacked bullpen from the right side he'll have to fend off Jensen Lewis if he wants to collect major league meal money.
2007
Mastny came out of nowhere last year and racked up four August saves (in four opportunities), only to get hammered in September and October. He's tall (6-foot-6) and will typically top out in the low-to mid 90s with his fastball. It's pretty imperative that Mastny develops his repertoire if he has some long-term sustainability in the big leagues. Definitely worth a reserve flyer.
