Steve Hammond

Hammond has enjoyed a lot more success in the minors than was expected. So far he has never had an ERA more than 3.00 and last year was no different. He had a 2.53 ERA in 14 starts for High-A Brevard County and then had a 2.93 ERA in 13 starts for Double-A Huntsville. At 24, he was a little old for each level, but he didn't pitch many innings in college and could be a late lefty bloomer. He doesn't throw hard and doesn't strike out a lot of guys, but it's hard to not like what he's accomplished thus far. The Brewers will likely start him off at Triple-A Nashville and see how he does at that level. He'll likely end up as a middle reliever in the majors, if he makes it that far.
