RotoWire's Preseason Outlooks

2014

There was no outlook written for Jim Miller.

2013

Miller was effective for the A's in 2012 tossing up a 2.59 ERA in 48.2 innings. Although he has spent a lot of time in the minors, Miller has put up more than a strikeout per inning for his career (10.2 K/9) over nine seasons and he carried an 8.1 K/9 mark during his time with Oakland. Unfortunately, control became an issue as he walked 27 batters in that limited sample (5.1 BB/9) and Miller was designated for assignment in November. He later was claimed by the Yankees and eventually outrighted to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. He never had control problems in the minors, so there's a good chance he works his way into the New York bullpen at some point.

2009

Miller pitched very well at Double- and Triple-A last season. He notched 10 saves in Triple-A with a 3.09 ERA and a minuscule WHIP of 1.08. This earned Miller a September callup in which he also pitched well in 7.2 innings and notched the Orioles' only save of the month. Miller should figure into Baltimore's bullpen plans in 2008, but he is a real dark horse to see time as a closer this year. Watch his health status closely before you draft - his 2008 season ended with a shoulder injury, one that did not require surgery.

2006

Miller started 2005 at High-A Modesto, where he saved 25 games and struck out 12.84 batters per nine innings. He continued to impress at Double-A Tulsa with nine saves, 19 strikeouts, and a miniscule 0.60 ERA in 15 innings. Miller probably will start the season in the minors but has a chance to be promoted if the Rockies run into bullpen trouble.
