2009
After dominating Double-A in 2007, Ascanio took a step back last year, struggling with his control and giving up too many long balls at Triple-A. He throws hard and could eventually vie for a middle-relief role, but expect him to start the season in the minors.
2008
Ascanio got his first taste of the majors with the Braves after a dominating season at Double-A where he had a 71:18 K:BB ratio in 78 innings with a 2.54 ERA. Despite a high-90's fastball, Ascanio hasn't had much hype as a prospect but could become a productive set-up man even if his upside is a bit limited at age 23 next season. He'll fight for a bullpen job with the Cubs after being traded in the offseason and could be a sleeper in deeper leagues.
2007
At just 21, Ascanio held his own after being promoted from High-A to Double-A with a 37:13 K:BB ratio in 38 innings. He throws in the high 90s and many think he could be a relief pitcher in the mold of Francsico Rodriguez. A strong year at Double-A could make him a factor for the Braves in 2008. He's not seen as a top prospect, so he could be a nice sleeper for deeper keeper leagues.
