2011
Marti was Cuba's top starting pitcher in the 2006 World Baseball Classic. He defected in 2009 and then pitched in the Dominican Winter League and Mexican League in 2010 while negotiating with MLB teams. He finally signed with Oakland, but didn't appear in the minors. He'll likely make his debut at Double-A this season. He's seen as major league ready by many, but remains an unknown since he hasn't pitched recently on the international stage, his numbers in his two brief stints weren't overwhelming and he may be as old as 31. Still, he's a wild card to watch early this season.
2010
Marti was Cuba's top starting pitcher in the 2006 World Baseball Classic. He defected in 2009 and was negotiating intends to sign with a MLB team for 2010. He's seen as major league ready by many, but remains an unknown since he hasn't pitched recently on the international stage and is 30 years old. He had a 2.30 ERA but mediocre control (11:6 K:BB ratio) in the Dominican winter league. He'll likely need some time in the minors, but could be a sleeper if he signs with a team that offers him a quick path to the majors.
