2010
Hoffpauir is slated to back up Derrek Lee at first, occasionally see work at the corner-outfield spots and be the team's primary left-handed bat off the bench. That said, Hoffpauir will be 30 when the season starts, doesn't hit for average and only draws an occasional walk, so his role is far from assured.
2009
Hoffpauir annihilated Triple-A pitching last year to the tune of .362/.393/.752 and carried it over to a short stint in the majors (.342/.400/.534 in 73 at-bats). At 29, he's not really considered a prospect, but he could make the team as a reserve first-baseman/corner outfielder and supply some pop off the bench.
