Van Every played most of the year at Triple-A Pawtucket, where he belted 26 homers, equaling his homers for the past two seasons. Consistency at the plate has been a problem for Van Every during his career. He offers some versatility, capable of playing all three outfield positions. That could come in handy when Boston assembles its 2009 roster. After the Coco Crisp trade, the Red Sox need a fourth and maybe a fifth outfielder.
