RotoWire's Preseason Outlooks

2013

There was no outlook written for Drew Macias.

2009

A solid year at Double-A Portland earned Macias a late-season callup to bolster the depleted Padres outfield. While 11 homers and 18 steals with an 83:81 BB:K ratio in 504 at-bats looks impressive, at 25 years of age, Macias was a few years older than most of his league mates, so the numbers are not nearly as promising as they would be for a younger prospect. Still, the plate patience is encouraging and he does have a nice power/speed combination, so Macias could earn a major league paycheck as a fourth or fifth outfielder, especially since he is athletic enough to handle center field if necessary.

2008

Macias' ceiling is probably as a major league reserve outfielder. He spent about two-thirds of 2007 in Double-A and the rest in Triple-A. Macias doesn't stand out in any offensive category and doesn't make up for it with his speed (eight steals in 17 attempts last year). He will likely spend 2008 in Triple-A.
