2009
After spending the majority of the 2008 season at Triple-A Portland, Geer was promoted for five late season starts and fared pretty well. He is a pitch-to-contact sort that does allow a preponderance of flyballs, which is a concern even in Petco Park. He will need to keep the walks down or induce more grounders to be a real viable fantasy entity, but he is an option for home starts for owners in deeper leagues.
2008
Geer jumped over a lot of San Diego's minor league prospects in 2007 with a strong season at Double-A and a disastrous year for the organization's Triple-A pitching staff. He earned the Texas League's Pitcher of the Year Award with a 16-6, 3.20 ERA season. Geer is a control artist that posted an impressive 102:27 K:BB ratio in 171.1 innings. He's a finesse pitcher that will probably spend 2008 in Triple-A.
