2010
Mills took a big step back, hitting .267 with just 14 homers at Double-A. His batting eye suffered as well in his first exposure to Double-A, drawing just 31 walks in 564 trips to the plate. He'll need to hit for more power if he's to be taken seriously as a prospect at first base.
2009
Mills got off to a sluggish start thanks to a shoulder injury, but wound up hitting .293 with 21 homers in his first full year as a pro, earning himself MVP honors in the Carolina League. He did strike out 105 times in just 482 at-bats so that bears watching as he moves up the ladder, but he did draw 54 walks as well. There's been no talk of switching him back to third base, so he's likely entrenched at first base now, but his bat should be enough to carry him there. He's got plus-power potential if he can control the strike zone as he advances. Look for him to spend most of 2009 at Double-A.
2008
Defensive concerns have already moved him across the diamond to first base, but Mills can rake. The 13th overall selection in the June draft advanced quickly, making a stop at three levels before finishing at High-A Kinston. His overall numbers (.261/.337/.424) weren't off-the-charts impressive, but the Indians advanced him quickly and he showed plus-power as a 20-year-old. Mills brings plenty of power to the table and should continue to advance quickly. In a perfect world, he'll work his way up to Double-A this season before knocking on the door at some point during the 2009 season, but growing pains could slow him down.
