2013
There was no outlook written for Jason Rice.
2011
Rice generates good velocity on his fastball, which translates into high strikeout rates, but he also has trouble commanding it. He needs to develop a second pitch, like his high 70s curveball, to be something he can use to get hitters out. As it is now, if he gets behind in counts, batters can wait on his fastball. Establishing better command to reduce his walks while working on a second pitch are the areas the organization is looking at for Rice in 2011.
2010
Rice excelled in his new role as a full-time reliever, striking out 94 batters in 70 innings while limiting opponents to a .160 batting average. He uses a 92-94 mph fastball and a curve he can throw for strikes. He's a little wild at times and needs to find a consistent release point for his fastball, but he's clearly impressed the Red Sox with his work out of the pen.
