2013

2011

Ely mania was in full bloom on June 1 of last season, as the prize of the Juan Pierre trade with the White Sox tossed seven shutout innings against Arizona to lower his ERA to 2.54 in six big league starts. That's when the wheels fell off and Ely posted an 8.04 ERA the rest of the way. With a fastball that averages just 87.4 mph, Ely profiles as a back of the rotation starter at best, and he's probably missed even that opportunity in Los Angeles.

2010

Ely posted a very good 2009 season at Double-A Birmingham, with a 2.82 ERA, .241 BAA and 125:50 K:BB in 156.1 innings. He got better as the year progressed, posting a 1.68 ERA and a complete game in his 10 starts after the Double-A All-Star break. He should start the 2010 season with Triple-A Charlotte and continue to climb the ranks of the team’s pitching prospects.
