2013
There was no outlook written for Brad Mills.
2012
Mills has posted a solid strikeout rate (8.5 K/9IP) in parts of five minor league seasons but the command-and-control lefty hasn't been able to put things together against major league hitters just yet. He was traded to the Angels in the offseason for Jeff Mathis so perhaps his new organization will be able to squeeze something of value out of him.
2011
Mills made a handful of forgettable appearances with the Jays but spent most of last year getting roughed up again at Triple-A Las Vegas. The soft-tossing lefty still managed a solid strikeout rate at Triple-A, but the more advanced hitters are squaring him up and making him pay for his mistakes. He'll need a lot of breaks this spring to win a rotation spot and is likely ticketed for another year at Triple-A as a result.
2010
Mills got hammered in a pair of starts against the Phillies in his only action at the big league level, but took a step back at Triple-A in 14 starts before having his season cut short by a rib injury. He's a command and control guy despite some gaudy strikeout numbers in his minor league career and he wouldn't be the first of his kind to not survive the meat grinder. The Jays have some uncertainty at the back of their rotation, but Mills will need to separate himself from the herd this spring if he's to land a spot.
2009
The minors are littered with guys like Mills: strike-throwing lefties without an abundance of pure stuff from established college programs. He put up solid numbers again, starting the season at Low-A Lansing and working himself up to Double-A New Hampshire. He's allowed just 129 hits and 58 walks with 180 strikeouts in 165.1 innings as a pro, but until he has a prolonged stretch at Double-A or above, there's no reason to get excited just yet. Not everyone like Jamie Moyer makes it through the meat grinder.
