2017 Fantasy Outlook
Gomez showed promise during stints in both Low-A and High-A in 2016. Beginning the season with Low-A Augusta, the 23-year-old went on a tear, slashing .371/.401/.532 in 285 plate appearances. Gomez's encouraging performance earned him a promotion to High-A San Jose, where he seemed to noticeably cool off. In his 182 plate appearances after the promotion, Gomez slashed .267/.302/.500. His strikeout rate jumped from 8.8 percent at Low-A to 15.4 percent in High-A and his BABIP fell from .386 to .272. Nonetheless, the Giants saw enough power and contact skills to award Gomez a spot on the 40-man roster in order to protect him from the Rule 5 draft. He will look to build on his encouraging 2016, likely starting the year back at High-A with a chance to move quickly to Double-A, especially now that he is on the 40-man roster.
