McCracken posted an incredibly inept .611 OPS in 2005, worse than two of Arizona's starting pitchers. We've been predicting McCracken's demise for years, and teams just keep signing him, so he'll probably show up somewhere in Florida or Arizona next February looking to share his clubhouse presence and bubbly personality.
McCracken can't get on base, can't hit for power, can't steal bases and can't even play the outfield well anymore. He underwent successful surgery in early October to repair a torn meniscus in his right knee and will likely be healthy come spring training, but that doesn't mean he'll win a job with Arizona again.
As expected, McCracken's productivity nose-dived in 2003, with his OPS falling from .826 in 2002 to .547 last year, barely ahead of Elmer Dessens and Randy Johnson in the team batting stats. Simply put, McCracken can't get on base, can't hit for power and can't steal bases. He was traded to Seattle in the offseason and will do little more than provide outfield depth.
McCracken came from nowhere last season and took advantage of the hole left by Danny Bautista's injury to become Arizona's nearly-regular right fielder, having a career year in 2002 (.309-3-40 in 123 games). However, with Bautista, Steve Finley, and Luis Gonzalez all back, McCracken will be demoted to fourth outfielder status with Arizona, and he'll take a huge hit in fantasy value off his 2002 figures. McCracken has little power (just 17 homers in 631 career MLB games), and he has never hit well in a part-time role (no worse than .290 in four seasons with 120-plus games played, no better than .250 in three seasons with 40 games played or less). If McCracken won't hit for either power or average as a part-timer, there's not much reason to draft him.
