Spivey was released by the Mets from their minor-league system Tuesday, the NY Post Mets' blog reports.
ANALYSIS
Spivey will look to hook elsewhere with a minor-league though it would be surprising if this was the end of his career.

Brought over as insurance when Jose Vidro started breaking down, Spivey proved to be just as fragile. He's in the mix for the Cardinals' second base job, but hopefully for his sake St. Louis doesn't stir up the situation too much, or Spivey might break.
Spivey hit .272 with seven HR before a dislocated shoulder ended his season. The Brewers will bring him back for one more season and give him the starting job at 2B. His job security is not high though, because Bill Hall should be in the mix, and top prospect Rickie Weeks could get called up at any point. Depending on the progress of Weeks, Spivey could be traded before season's end.
Spivey's stock fell like a rock in 2003, although injuries took their toll. With the trade to Milwaukee, he'll likely be the everyday second baseman there, unless he's then shipped elsewhere. Bid based on his 2003 season, and not his All-Star 2002, because that may have been his career year.
Spivey got his chance in 2002 due to injuries to Jay Bell and others, and he ran with it, putting up numbers of .301-16-78 (11 steals) as Arizona's regular second baseman. He's now a mainstay in Bob Brenly's everyday lineup. He turns 28 in the spring, which means we may not have seen his peak yet. Once Kent, Vidro, Biggio, and Durham are gone, he should be the best second baseman left on the board in your NL league.
