Once he got healthy Wunsch pitched just fine in Triple-A, but the White Sox decided he wasn't in their plans any more -- even as they converted all his potential successors in the minors into starters. Now in LA, he'll resume his left-handed, one-out specialist ways, likely without missing a beat.
Wunsch missed some time due to injury, but it wasn't arm related -- and when he was healthy he was unhittable, holding lefties and righties alike to interstate batting averages (.127 for LH, .153 for RH) and slugging percentages just north of .200. He'll be a valuable part of the Sox bullpen in 2004, unless they struggle, in which case he'll probably be a valuable part of someone else's bullpen.
Wunsch got a late start after returning from rotator cuff surgery and wasn't quite at 100%. The Sox seem intent on bringing him back in 2003, a curious decision with young arms like Dave Sanders and Arnaldo Munoz in the system behind him, but if Wunsch is fully healthy there's no reason he can't be a dependable lefty-killer again.
