Day was acquired in the Preston Wilson trade last year primarily because he's a sinkerball pitcher. He spent much of the year on the disabled list with a broken wrist, sore shoulder and broken finger. He'll compete for a spot in the rotation and likely spend time in the minors if he loses out.
For the second straight year Day's season was derailed by shoulder problems, a dangerous trend for any pitcher. He's best suited to be a reserve pick, a guy you can plug in when his sinker's humming, and cut loose without any qualms when it isn't.
Although his final numbers weren't great, Day was a ground ball machine in the first half of the season before colliding with Wil Cordero and tearing his rotator cuff. His low strikeout totals will always make him a dangerous proposition fantasy-wise, but if the infield defense behind him stays good Day is fully capable of another hot streak, like his 2.48 April ERA.
Won't turn 25 until midseason, so his decently mediocre numbers in his first major league action really aren't bad at all. He's got a good chance of winning a spot at the back of the rotation this spring.
