Despite no appreciable skill other than the ability to hit for a decent average in the PCL, Calloway racked up over 400 at-bats for the Expos the last two seasons -- a testament to the lack of depth and curious roster decisions that made up the club's final days.
Calloway spent the year as the Expos' fourth outfielder, and the team got a good look at him when Vlad Guerrero's back put him on the DL. That look was probably what got Juan Rivera included in the Javy Vazquez deal -- Calloway just doesn't have much of a future.
Made a little noise in the spring, but with 20/20 hindsight the Expos made the correct decision by sending him to Triple-A, as his .264/.335/.427 line demonstrates. Given the team's hole in centerfield he'll be given another chance to make the jump, but don't expect too much even if he makes it.
