Past Fantasy Outlooks
2004
2003
Mears in 2003 exemplified how frustrating the chase for closers can be. He came out of the blue to pick up four saves in one week in July, striking out five batters while walking none during that time. He had just one more save after that, eventually getting optioned back to Toledo, and later being converted into a starter. His days as a closer candidate are probably already behind him, but at least roto owners can fondly remember blowing their FAAB budget on him, much as they did for "Smokin'" Lou Frazier's four stolen bases in one game a decade ago.
