D'Antona spent all of 2007 at Triple-A and enjoyed a fair amount of success with Tucson, hitting .308/.362/.499 while seeing time and the corner infield spots and behind the plate. He doesn't boast typical corner infield power, but with 43 doubles last season and a good eye at the plate (40:57 BB:K in 483 at-bats), there's reason to believe that he can be a 15-20 homer bat at the next level. Opportunity could be limited in Arizona, those his versatility and strong arm in the field may be enough to earn some play at the next level.
The D'backs' prospect logjam has kept D'Antona stuck at Double-A for two-plus years. He lacks a dominant skill, although given a chance he'd be a reasonable platoon corner. Until he beats out Barden for a job in Triple-A, though, you can leave him off your lists.
After some nice-looking power numbers at high Single-A, D'Antona was promoted to Double-A and had a rude awakening: a .512 OPS doesn't look good anywhere, but it's particularly awful in the hitter's paradise of the Texas League. Hold the phone on him until he shows some improvement.
The D-Backs' second-round draft choice out of Wake Forest in 2003, D'Antona is seen as a guy capable of potentially hitting 40 home runs in a season. He'll start 2004 at High Single-A.
